How ILARIS® Can Help Patients With CAPS (Cryopyrin-Associated Periodic Syndrome)

Learning About ILARIS®—A Specific Treatment for CAPS

In June 2009, ILARIS® (canakinumab) was approved in the United States for the treatment of FCAS (Familial Cold Autoinflammatory Syndrome) and Muckle-Wells Syndrome (MWS), 2 conditions in a group of rare diseases called CAPS, in both adults and in children aged 4 years and older.

ILARIS® is the first and only CAPS treatment that is approved for use in both adults and in children aged 4 years and older.

CAPS is caused by an overproduction of IL-1β, also known as interleukin-1 beta, a protein that is part of the immune system. Buildup of IL-1β in body tissues causes the inflammation and symptoms of CAPS.
