Some Ways You Can Help a Loved One
CAPS Symptoms may be difficult to manage alone. Here are a few things recommended by an expert in CAPS that you can do to help someone you care about cope with CAPS:
- 1. Prevent many symptoms by making sure that they avoid cold and dress warmly
- 2. Suggest they treat episodes by soaking in a warm bath
- 3. Recommend they drink warm liquids to ease a flare of symptoms
But in a lot of cases, these changes may not help in FCAS (Familial Cold Autoinflammatory Syndrome) or Muckle-Wells Syndrome (MWS). The following are some other things you can do to help your loved one:
- 1. Since CAPS is a genetic disease the Speaking With Family About CAPS Letter may be a helpful tool once someone you love has been diagnosed
- a. This brief letter can be personalized and sent to family members to let them know about CAPS and their potential risk for the disease
- 2. Encourage your loved one to talk to a doctor right away about any CAPS Symptoms that may have been noticed
- 3. If ILARIS® (canakinumab), or any other medication, has been prescribed by a physician, keeping a calendar may help your loved one stick to the treatment schedule
- 4. If your loved one is prescribed ILARIS®, suggest they take advantage of the ILARIS® Patient Support Program for Patients With CAPS to help overcome financial challenges when seeking treatment with ILARIS®
